Words account for just 7% of the meaning in speech according to Albert Mehrabian.
Before you even say a word, you transmit impressions, favorable or not, through nonverbal communication, the conscious or subconscious transmission and reception of unspoken messages.
- Your walk,
- Your posture,
- Your facial expressions,
- Your eyes,
- Your clothing,
- Your grooming, &
- Your gestures.
We have all heard a number of sayings and phrases that clearly demonstrate the importance of nonverbal communication, such as:
“Actions speak louder than words.”
“It wasn’t so much what he said, but how he said it.
“She had a look that could kill.”
We cannot, NOT communicate. We communicate simply by being alive.
